Big election this year in Texas. Agriculture Commissioner. Please take the time to study each candidate and find where they stand on issues like overseas trade promotion, port and rail access, water policy, invasive species abatement, fighting anti-science bans on GMOS, antibiotics and hormones and promoting the ag and STEM education in schools we need to keep producing efficiently. Rice, for example, is taking a beating on both ends of trade promotion. Texas rice is being shut out of markets because the United States doesnt aggressively challenge trade law violations, and they face competition from countries like Brazil where rice is a government-funded industry that sells at a massive loss because they know it weakens our economy. Hundreds of thousands of Texas jobs and billions of dollar of tax revenue are at stake. Picking someone just because theyre a good Christian or they answered a questionnaire right could really screw up the states economy, sso please make sure Texas elects an ag-first Ag Commissioner. The good news is it seems like the candidates understand ag and also happen to be sterling conservatives, but dont be shy about grilling them on ag policy.
