Bihar magistrate held on kidnap charge, gets bail TNN Nov 16, 2013, 04.46AM IST HOWRAH: The tables turned on a Bihar magistrate as he ended up in the dock of Howrah court on Friday. The magistrate - of a Motihari court - was arrested on Thursday afternoon for allegedly trying to abduct a homemaker from Howrahs Nibra. He, along with nine other accused, were lodged in the lock-up of Domjur police station after the arrest. The accused is a magistrate of Motihari Court first class magistrate-cum-additional munsif of Motihari Court in Bihars East Champaran district. All 10 are accused of attempting abduction. Nine of them, barring the judge, also face charges under section 498A IPC and attempt to murder, said additional public prosecutor Mintu Pramanik. On a complaint by victim Monisha Chowdhury, 24, Police found Chowdhurys I-card on him which said he was a first class magistrate-cum-additional munsif of Motihari Court in Bihars East Champaran district. All 10 are accused of attempted abduction though nine of them, barring Chowdury, face charges under section 498A IPC and attempt to murder, said additional public prosecutor Mintu Pramanik. On Friday, a Howrah court remanded the victims husband in judicial custody and granted bail to the judge and eight others. In her complaint, Monisha Chowdhury (24) alleged that the 10, including her husband, arrived at her Nibra home around 11pm on Wednesday and tried to forcibly take her to her in-laws place at Dhanbad. Monisha had left her husband and in-laws in Dhanbad because se could not bear their physical torture for dowry. as their physical torture on her became unbearable and their demand for dowry mounted. Monisha married Rajib on April 28, 2007. The couple has two sons, one aged five and the other three, said a source. Monishas father Biswanath, a factory worker in Howrah, alleged that Rajib and his parents started torturing his daughter for dowry soon after the marriage. Recently, they asked Monisha to get a four-wheeler and some silver utensils from her father. When I refused, they beat me with a belt, said Monisha in her complaint with Domjur police. Unable to bear the torture, Monisha returned to her parents place in Domjur about six months ago. Since then, my husband and in-laws have been threatening my father to ensure that I return to Dhanbad with whatever they demanded, Monisha said in her complaint. She said that on Wednesday night, her in-laws and husband arrived at their house in Howrah with seven others, including the magistrate. They warned that if I did not go with them, they would drag me out of my housewarned to let me go with them or they would drag me out and take me back, she alleged. They reportedly went away at night only to return at 7am on Thursday but Biswanaths neighbours surrounded the group, including Chowdhury . Police reached the spot after being informed by the locals and brought the 10 to Dompjur police station.
