Bill Binney is a 32-year NSA veteran who was integral to creating the NSA’s program for the surveillance of digital information. He is now retired, and he’s shedding some light on the secretive agency’s practices. These new revelations are chilling. NSA is lying to defense attorneys and judges in courts at all levels of government about how the information was obtained so it can be admitted as evidence to arrest and convict someone. The agency is also sharing the information collected on Americans with the governments of foreign nations. Unbelievable. This should have Americans demanding the impeachment of any and all officials, no matter how high ranking, who are involved in these blatantly illegal and unconstitutional spying activities. We obviously haven’t learned the lessons of Orwell’s 1984 and have failed to heed the warnings of Tocqueville, who prophetically stated that the downfall of the American system would be the creeping, administrative despotism that would result in the extinction of liberty. The question is: Now that Americans are waking up to what’s happening, what can we do to loosen tyranny’s tight grip?
