Bill Doggett "I knew this man. His importance to young and established African American singers is without measure and comparison... He was the great torch bearer of Kurt Herbert Adler who lifted up and introduced the young Leontyne Price on the world stage after her 1955 Tosca TV Opera debut and its associated scandal because of the inter racial casting during the height of Jim Crow/Segregation. 1955 was also the year of Emmett Till which kickstarted The Civil Rights Movement. Yet, it was on the western frontier: in San Francisco, where opportunity based on artistic talent and not skin color found its home and voice, becoming a mecca for so many because of Adler and Mansouri Years:1988-2001. I am grateful. and I know I am not alone in this."
