Bill English attacked by the defenders of expensive housing and inequality. They appear not to understand that the overvalued land in Auckland in particular has more unintended consequences than just unaffordable housing. Government pays more for land it requires for not just social housing but also schools, hospital meaning higher taxes. Business pays more for land or buys land out of Auckland meaning fewer jobs created. Retail pays higher rent for store space meaning goods are sold at a higher price. Whats Councils answer more intervention and more meddling.
