Bill Shaw webinar Feb 18. Love this guy. The Green Smoothie Health Fad: This Road to Health Hell is Paved with Toxic Oxalate Crystals. Many people now frequently consume “green smoothies” in an effort to eat “clean” and get healthy, however, they may actually be sabotaging their health with these mean, green concoctions. The most common components of the most popular green smoothies are spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and arugula, all of which are loaded with oxalates. Oxalates crystals (and their acid form, oxalic acid) are the main toxic metabolite of ethylene glycol and have now been shown to cause problems from kidney stones to severe pain in the body organs and tissues. Oxalic acid is the most acidic organic acid in body fluids and is used commercially to remove rust from car radiators. This webinar will discuss the dangers of oxalates, who may be most at risk, options for testing oxalate toxicity, and what can be done to prevent and treat symptoms caused by oxalates. Oxalates commonly build up in the kidneys, causing kidney stones. These crystals can also form in the bones, skin, joints, eyes, thyroid gland, blood vessels, lungs, and even the brain, causing severe pain. Oxalates are a common problem for people with autism, and two different types of genetic diseases are known in which oxalates are high in the urine. Individuals with fibromyalgia and women with vulvar pain (vulvodynia) may also suffer from the effects of excess oxalates. William Shaw, Ph.D. is board certified in clinical chemistry and toxicology.
