Bill Walsh used to script his first 10-26 plays before every game. That means his QB and offense knew what play they were running for up to 26 downs. The NY Giants came to SF for a playoff game. Somehow, right as the game began, the 49ers sideline headsets and phones went down. That meant by rule, the Giants had to turn theirs off as well. That meant for up to 26 plays, the Niners had a significant advantage, because the Giants needed their headsets and phones to send in bench calls. The Niners already knew theirs. Was that power out a coincidence? Not really. Years later, Walsh called it gamesmanship. Fields get watered down, visiting locker rooms get the hot water shut off, and heres one you see every game: A coach on the sideline is calling in a play to his QBs helmet headset through the coachs sideline mic. As the coach does so, just like EVERY OTHER COACH IN THE LEAGUE-AND NCAA, he is covering his mouth with a large sheet of paper with the plays on it. Do you think hes concerned about his breath? Id wager not. Hes worried that the other team has hired as many lip readers as HE HAS to pick off the opposing teams playbook. Cheating doesnt run in football. It GALLOPS. It has forever and only gets more rampant. The 70s Raiders had a sign in the locker room that read, If you aint cheating, youre not trying hard enough. If you still think the New England Pats are the only cheaters, your head is too far up your ass to even watch the game.
