Bill. Ws Ten Strike and Jimmy. Ks Dis-Ease ... Our NA Program and fellowship sprang, (in 1953), from a turmoil within AA over what to do with the addicts knocking on its doors. Today, WE, from ALL 12 Step fellowships, attempt to practice Principles Before Personalities and Co-Operation WITHOUT Affiliation when referring to or working with those from fellowships other than our own. What Bill. W used, to attempt to explain his experiences of Change, was what he called The Ten Strike- to clarify the differences of certain Religious beliefs with similar Spiritual Experiences of Twelve Steps and to focus on one thing, and One Thing Only, so as to do That One Thing, very well. WE, in NA, did this as well by clarifying Ourselves, illustrating the difference between the idea of a Drug of Choice and the Disease of Addiction. Our Program and Basic Text-Book of Recovery defines OUR DISEASE as Obsession/Compulsion/Self-Centeredness. We confirmed that : this Process has Nothing to do with drug of choice . We created Our Own Ten Strike by changing the words of Our Step One, (NA), making the Point that a/the Drug(s) of Choice has Nothing to do with Our Disease because it is Our Dis-Eased THINKING, the ADDICTION, that causes Us to even consider using, (anyone or anything). Our Disease is ALL Inclusive and to compartmentalize and focus ONLY on some facets, aspects or portions of This Disease, is too limiting a concept for US. WE have a Disease, called Addiction and a Daily Reprieve from Our Self Made Prisons, One Moment at a Time, Just For Today, contingent on OUR Regular and Consistent Practice of These Spiritual Principles.
