Billionaire Blues JANUARY 21, 2015 / MERLIN What amounts to - TopicsExpress

Billionaire Blues JANUARY 21, 2015 / MERLIN What amounts to nothing short of a disgraceful and scandalous campaign of vilification and propaganda is being waged on Sports Direct billionaire Mike Ashley. Ashley, like others before him in the Rangers saga, has been smeared and had his name dragged through the mud so many times because the propagandists want their men in the Ibrox boardroom. They have done everything they can to demonise Ashley and hinder his business – including staging ridiculous demos in Sports Direct shops which ultimately made them look like chumps but could have been much more dangerous. And last Friday a protest against Ashley’s involvement resulted in disgusting violence towards Rangers employees. The media have piled in in their usually complicit anti-Rangers manner. The SFA has also put ludicrous roadblocks in Ashley’s way, preventing him from investing in Rangers. It should be remembered by people that Ashley’s loaning money to Rangers – so much the bone of contention for the propagandists – is simply having to take place because his desire to invest is being thwarted. Those who claim that we don’t know Ashley’s intentions are either lying or have amnesia issues. “He wants to pyure rape oor club, man,” is the mantra taught to the gullible by those who know better but who prefer the old guard to return in an SDM Lite regime. Mike Ashley may be many things but rapist and pillager he is not. He has invested heavily in his retail business across the UK, providing quality sportswear at affordable prices. His may not be the shop of choice for some sportswear snobs but the fact he sells to millions and makes large profits doing so tells its own story. His stores help the Scottish economy and provide jobs here. He might not be running his business for purely altruistic reasons but I am sure Dave King isn’t either. And King is the man who has been deemed by a South African judge as being the one with a compulsion to make money and with having an aversion to the truth. The truth is that in order for those seeking to get control at Ibrox, Mike Ashley has to be painted as the devil incarnate. The propaganda has been ramped up because the truth leaves their campaign bleeding in the gutter. Mike Ashley is the real deal – a genuine multi-billionaire with a proven track record of running a big football club and oceans of resources to call upon. He is a massively major player in the sports business in the UK and was recently termed the most influential man in British football. There is an argument that “Rangers men” are better custodians, although it is an increasingly silly one in 21st century football. It is flat out ludicrous if those Rangers men cannot deliver a fraction of the resources, clout and marketing scope that Ashley can. And it is an argument easily satisfied. Why not have – as some sensible fans have proposed – a dream team of Ashley with his billions and Rangers men on the board and in key positions throughout the club? Men, say, like Douglas Park, who is a reputable Scottish businessman and perhaps John Gilligan, who also has an excellent pedigree. Mike Ashley may rule the roost at Newcastle but there have always been men throughout the club that are dyed in the wool Magpies. In terms of Ashley and the “Rangers men” it doesn’t have to be an either/or – it could and should be a both/and. I have no idea why Ashley would have any reason to oppose such a concept – himself as major shareholder with Rangers men as director shareholders in a strong board. The question is: Would this be acceptable to the Rangers men or is their desire to own the club greater than their professed love for the club? What doesn’t help is Paul Murray’s disgraceful comments in the media telling Mike Ashley to get out of OUR club. Having pumped four bob into a supporter’s share scheme, Murray is telling a large shareholder in the PLC to bugger off? This is the madness we are watching. No wonder the entire footballing world is laughing at us. A large part of the problem is the suspicious fear of people with wealth. It is a culture thing and very much a football culture thing. The propagandists in the Ibrox saga are manipulating this fear and using it to whip the support into mass hysteria. Buzz words like “spiv” and “parasite” abound. My advice is: Think for yourself. Examine the FACTS and if, having done so, you still don’t want Mike Ashley, that is your decision. Me, I think Ashley’s many millions and his clout and influence are not only great for Rangers but potentially good for Scottish football. With solid Rangers men in the boardroom and throughout the club, it would be the dream team. The propagandists will tell you I am being paid to say this because they don’t have an argument against it. The simple truth is that if the “Rangers men” succeed in driving away the big, bad billionaire from Ibrox, they will have to find someone just like him to fund any plans they might have. Otherwise, the money to run the club will have to come from the same people who always have to shell out – YOU. The propagandists want you to have the billionaire blues and drive Mike Ashley away from Rangers. The alternative is for Rangers to be the Billionaire’s Blues and take Rangers into a whole new era of success and glory. It’s a no-brainer as they say. Sadly, some with no brains are standing in the way of it happening. https://billmcmurdo.wordpress/2015/01/21/billionaire-blues/
