Binays Qualms Terry Valladores [ShellClub15Plus] Folks, Investigative journalism has assumed a new dimension in recent times. It is powerful and facts taken when reported can be compelling. Rappler with reporters like Marites Vitug and Maria Ressa (formerly with CNN) have established their reputation as fearless investigative reporters with piercing and incisive analysis of facts. In the current controversy that VP Binay is embroiled in, the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee is, yes, doing a lethal job to Binays politics. But on top of it, PDI regularly comes up with headline news on developments about the properties and other deals of the Binay family. While the subject has morphed outside of the original subject of the investigation i. e, the overpriced Makati Carpark Building, rightly or wrongly, it is in the interest of the public that all pecuniary interests of public officials are brought in the open for matching with their SALN as declared. This is where possible mismatch could happen, and thus could be a ground for betrayal of public trust or ground for criminal case. PDI, bereft of any partisan interest but merely championing the cause of the truth, is doing its job which can be more damaging than the effects of the Senate sub-committee work. This will add to the qualms of VP Binay and his family. There is a sense of deja vu back when PDAF was bannered almost everyday.
