Biology was not one of my best liked subjects while in school, but - TopicsExpress

Biology was not one of my best liked subjects while in school, but these days, I find myself wishing I had listened more to the teacher. This human body is an amazing piece of machinery with so many moving parts, cells, and functions, and it seems we age, the way our bodies operate become more interesting and important. We begin to notice little things that were ignored when we was younger. Muscles we never knew existed start speaking to us and telling us they hurt at times. Walking at a fast pace takes the place of running, reading glasses become a part of our “tool” chest and accessory department, our diets become a conversation piece, and our sleeping habits change without notice. Instead of visiting the doctor once in a while, we make sure to keep up with our scheduled check-ups. It seems that every refrigerator becomes a bulletin board for doctor cards and scheduled visits. In fact, the doctor’s phone numbers are hid in our cell phones before family member’s names. We do all this for the sake of keeping this body operational. As the old spiritual song said, “everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die”. This body of ours has been “ fearfully and wonderfully made“, so says the scripture. But it also has moments, just like Dad’s old cars, that they need some attention and at times, over hauling. After certain diagnostic tests, there are those times when certain things need reworked , replaced, or taken out and done away with just so it will work better and last a little longer. Then there are those times when the man or lady doing the diagnosis on us lets us know that we haven’t done such a good job maintaining our bodies. When that happens, we find ourselves having to trust somebody we have never knew existed , just so they could do their best to get us back into running order or operating as good as possible. Trust. Wow, that is such a big word and has so much meaning. Trusting somebody we know little about to examine, assess, prescribe medications, and make recommendations for us just so we can live healthy and live a little longer. Many years ago, my dad in law had to trust a surgeon to open his chest and do emergency heart surgery. He had never met this heart surgeon in his life. The family knew nothing about this surgeon, but that particular Sunday morning, we all found ourselves not only trusting the Lord, but putting our total trust in a man we knew nothing about to work on dad in law’s heart just so Dad could live a little longer with us. Yes, the surgery was a great success, but the fact remains, we never questioned the surgeons credentials or his abilities. We just took him at his word and the testimony of others about how good this man was. On this journey called Life, the Master Designer, who fearfully and wonderfully made us, sits patiently waiting for each of us to learn to trust Him. And it is a “sweet” thing when we learn to trust him, and just to take Him at His word, and if I may add, the word of others who know him also and remember..there is..More to Come..
