Biomass : it refers to the quantity or weight of living matter per unit area per unit time and is represented in terms of dry weight. food chain -- the feeding relationship in an ecosystem is represented by a food chain. a food chain is a series of organisms through which energy is transferred in the form of food. e.g. grass, rabbit, eagle. ecological pyramids : the graphical & quantitative representation of energy value at each trophic level is known as ecological pyramid. it always begins with a producers. pyramids of number - it represents the no of organism in a food chain . a pyramid of numbers allow us to compare the number of organisms present in each trophic level at a particular time. biomass pyramid - compares the total dry weight of the organisms in each trophic level instead of no of species. energy pyramid - compares the total amount of energy available in each trophic level. this energy is usually measured in kilocalories.
