Bird Walk Report : A brisk walk down the parking lane and a high five. We were now ready for all the wonderful sightings that were in store for us. The small waterbody gave us the glimpse of a very beautiful bird which we had not seen for a very long time.A pair of White Browed Wagtail!!As if this was not enough of a surprise, White Bellied Drongo blessed us with its august presence(Pointers - White vent. No sharp bifurcation of tail or a shallower fork). Ecstatic with the spots and with high hopes of getting an Orange Breasted Green Pigeon or the miraculous Pale Capped Woodpigeons we rushed through the roads. The Roller was right at the same spot where we had spotted it earlier as if time had no effect on its position. With colour- filled eyes and more than content, we moved on to the lake only to find a Little Cormorant struggling to gulp down a fish much larger than its gape. 5 minutes passed away and it was time that the cormorant realised that it was just a lucky catch far big to cash in . A Hindi proverb explains this well - Chaadar se zyaada per phelaana. We left the poor bird to its fate and moved on to the more dense areas. We were lucky to meet Mamta Megha maam who was returning from the pursuit of the Pale Capped Woodpigeons. Our return journey was an absolute delight. Through the dense jungles, came down an Asian Paradise Flycatcher female. Mr. Pale billed flowerpecker chirped at us for full long minute, enjoyed the nectar of the flower and bid us a goodbye. Time and again , Ekamra Kanan has proved to be a paradise of birds for habouring both tree birds and also water birds. The expectations of sighting Orange Breasted Green Pigeon hardly seemed to bother us after such lovely spots. We were unable to spot 2 birds. Their description is as follows : 1. Streaked head. Brown dorsal part. Wings brown. White breast...We think it to be a Puff Throated Babbler. We need some confirmations from our senior birders. 2. Square tail. White breast. Black supercilium. White eye band. Very similar to a woodshrike.
