Bird decline smoking gun for pesticides effects New study provides further evidence that the intensification of agriculture has bad consequences for wildlife, and that birds are useful indicators of environmental health. While the negative impacts of neonicotinoids may be more severe for some insect groups, these animals can be difficult or expensive to monitor. Being conspicuous, relatively easy to census, and sensitive to pressures on the environment, birds are incredibly valuable as wildlife sentinels, said Dr Stuart Butchart, BirdLifes Head of Science.
