Birdlife Malta and Co abuse democratic tools. Facts: Prior to the referendum on Maltas EU Accession, hunters were guaranteed that spring hunting would remain, as was, or even improve. The vote was taken, and hence such a guarantee was endorsed by the Maltese electorate. Down the line Birdlife Malta was not happy with what was voted upon and incited the EU Environment Commission to open infringement procedures. Such ultimately landed Malta at the European Court of Justice. The Maltese Govt defended the case. On the eve of the verdict FACE (the European Hunters Association) & Birdlife International, signed a declaration that they would abide by the ruling. The ECJ ruled that Malta was in breach of the Birds Directive, however, met the conditions for allowing a limited Spring Hunting Season. In the following years Malta opened a limited, strictly supervised season, which the EU Environment Commission, not only refrained from challenging, but even endorsed. Birdlife Malta, not happy with the situation, went back on its signed declaration, and started a referendum process. Birdlife Malta backtracked on a signed declaration & a supreme court ruling, hence they cant be trusted. On 11 April send the message that extremists who are never satisfied will never gain your support. Support minorities who are suffering from extremists who are ready to challenge what we voted for and obtained through a court ruling.
