Birds are perhaps the single largest threat to aircraft safety. Just imagine a bird sucked into an engine. Translation: Probable Disaster and an inevitable emergency landing. Whats more alarming is that according to a report by the Federal Aviation Administration, the number of bird strikes has increased nearly six-fold since 1990 to a record 10,343 in 2012. These are the methods airports use to MINIMIZE, and not ELIMINATE, the risk of bird strikes.
