Birth professionals are meant to be just that...professional. Just like in any profession some care providers are wonderful and some are not. Being professional, trustworthy, honest, and respecting their client/patient privacy should be something that comes with the job. That is doing the right thing. Unfortunately this isnt always the case, which is why HIPAA exists. As the consumer we must hold our providers (midwife, OB, nurses, etc) to this standard. It is not OK for your care provider to talk about you, your care, your private information (especially using your name) with anyone they feel like. Not to mention its downright violating and rude. Links in comments for more information on HIPAA. Again, remember YOU are the consumer and we have a collective voice by hiring competent, caring, respectful providers and firing ones who arent.
