Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem. What are the Etiquettes of attending a Mawlid Mehfil? A short message. Nowadays, we see that mawlid has become a time when people come together at a gathering, make a lot of noise, shout and scream, have food and leave to their houses. Is this really how we should celebrate Mawlid? Would you scream your heads off in this manner if Aaqa salAllahu alaihi wa sallam was present in the mehfil too? Shouldnt you rather have love in your eyes when listening to a naat than make a video on your mobile for a youtube upload? Below are a few ettiquettes of attending a Mawlid mehfil so we can make the most of it: ● Make the intention to attend a Mawlid mehfil just to please Allah Azzwajal and His Messenger salallahu alaihi wa sallam, and increase your love for them. ● Read Durood Shareef on your way to the mosque ● Sit as politely as possible. We all know it is hard to sit on the floor for long periods, but the more respect you have, the more love and closeness you will achieve. Do not behave in a way due to which you come back with a heavy burden of sins rather than earning good deeds and a means for forgiveness in the Hereafter. Alaa Hazrat used to sit on his knees during the entire Mehfil which lasted about 4 hours. Lets learn from our Salaf. ● Listen to the naat as though your feelings were being described and Aaqa salAllahu alaihi wa sallam were present in front of you. ● Keep your tongue busy remembering the Beloved at all times. ● ALWAYS ALWAYS participate in the dua at the end because it is the essence of ibaadah (Hadeeth). It is as though you work for someone for a full month but when he is about to pay your wages, you walk off saying you dont need it. ● MOST IMPORTANTLY - Pray your Salah... DO NOT walk out during the time for salah and return once it is over. It is like working overtime but not your officially contracted hours. ● Be there wholeheartedly. ● Eat langar (Food set) - Dont waste it ● Do dua for those who were not able to come to these mehfils and those who are ignorant of these. May ALLAH Subhanahu Wa Ta Ala grant us the ability to attain many blessings from the Month of Rabi Ul Awal Shareef, Ameen Ya Rabi!
