Bit of a Rant, and not about anything Military! My rant on this Friday morning is Loom Bands and not the actual bands themselves but the scaremongering tactics currently coming out from the media. Theyve started: Loom Bands cause circulation problems, Loom Bands are dangerous. Lets face it - yes, an elastic band is dangerous if used incorrectly but all I see is unfortunate accidents and a story thats being pushed through the papers just like the recent spider craze. I do feel for anyone that has been involved in any accident involving loom bands but EVERY box I have seen (and we have twins aged 9 so Ive seen a lot) has an age warning of NO UNDER 8s on the packaging for these very reasons. My BIGGEST RANT is that we are a week away from the School Holidays and its the first time I have seen a craze that is instantly affordable to everyone, no matter what their income. You can pick up a bag of loom bands for 99p and it keeps the kids happy for hours (with parent supervision of course), something that parents would be looking forward to over the school holidays I bet. Im not saying that these bands ARE NOT dangerous - if they are used wrongly then they will be dangerous - FACT, but its all about educating the kids to use something correctly. I dont see many incidents of people being stuck in the arm at school with the pointed sticks they take to school daily .................... others may call them pencils. Loom bands to me, are a great way for a child to show creativity, they are inexpensive and get kids to interact with each other - a break away from video games has a tick in the box from me. But hey, this is just my opinion as a parent!
