Bit of a long-winded thought here, so brace yourself. I have this little pocket tape recorder I use to record ideas and rough drafts, and today I went back and listened to some older stuff. And I find it uncanny how often people bust into the room and start talking, thinking Im just playing guitar. So many recordings start with guitar, a door swings open, and all of a sudden a conversation is unfolding. I have one from high school saved on my computer where my ma comes in and tells me to go downstairs and pick up all my shoes lying all over the place. I found one from freshman year of college when my old roommate Ebenezer Lancerio storms back into the dorm room and starts swearing profusely, saying hes positive he just bombed an exam. One from another roommate, David Mooney, who barges in and proceeds to read this paragraph from Huck Finn aloud that he claims Im gonna love. Lots with Emily, too. Its giving me all these nostalgic feelings to be able to listen to conversations that would otherwise be long forgotten. It is a pretty special privilege, in a way. Way different than a picture, but produces a similar effect.
