Bit of history: on this day in 1938, Orson Wells did a radio broadcast reciting The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. Being that the majority of listeners were tuning in to other shows, they didnt catch the part in the beginning that mentioned that this was a recitation of a fictional book. So whenever they radio-surfed, they caught the parts of the story where Earth was being invaded by aliens with death rays. This sent a lot of people into a panic, calling police, running in the streets and seeking shelter in cellars. Learn more on the search engine of your choice. :) Also, the book itself is a good read if you have a copy lying around.
