Black Friday Shoppers Fell for Lipstick Hoax [Infographic] (#socialmedia info) Social media and Black Friday go hand in hand, as shoppers take advantage of all the deals they can find online. Datarank has compiled the activity of Twitter users this Black Friday in an infographic to find out what the most sought after deals were, and just how people felt about the day. There were more than 2.68 million Black Friday tweets during the month of November, with the majority of mentions coming in during Black Friday and the three days before. As previously reported by SocialTimes, Wal-Mart showed the highest levels of social media engagement around Black Friday — the Twitter page received 46,270 mentions. Amazon received the second highest engagement with 31,817 mentions. Despite the focus on technology retailers, the highest performing product on Twitter was lipstick. Although it was caused by a hoax, users generated 18,406 mentions surrounding the product. Next were televisions with 16,664 mentions and Xbox with 14,032 mentions. Overall on Twitter, sentiment toward Black Friday was positive: 71 percent of Black Friday tweets expressed positive sentiment, and 29 percent expressed negative sentiment.
