Black Heron (Egretta ardesiaca) also referred to as a black - TopicsExpress

Black Heron (Egretta ardesiaca) also referred to as a black egret, the black heron is a wading bird of the family Ardeidae (herons) native to most bodies of water in southern Africa and Madagascar. They are a medium sized bird growing up to 66cm long, and true to their name they have a jet black body with yellow legs. But the most interesting feature about these birds is not their plumage or size but their method of feeding which is called canopy feeding, where the bird uses its wings to create a sort of umbrella which shades the water under it which in turn attracts fish which the bird then eats.
