Black Jesus/ Aaron McGruder: My Thoughts... I dont see what the big deal is with t....actually, I do see why the church doesnt want to see this show air. Jesus is smoking weed, Hes cussing, Hes ghetto, kinda dirty, kinda not pretty, etc. Hes embarrassing. We want our Jesus to be that clean, Holy Jesus, that would look like Idris Elba as a hippie. He would be deep, kind, articulant (yes, articuLant, cus thats how some of yall say it., and Definitely wouldnt be smoking weed and cussing. Thats the Jesus that We want! Aaron McGruder is a Master of wrapping gold in toilet paper. I watched The Boondocks for the first time last month- 2 seasons. The stuff that came out of Uncle Ruckuss mouth Alone almost made me turn it off- not including his super controversial subject matter. But I grimaced and watched on. What I found was that when you get past the harshness of the reality, being offended, appalled and embarrassed- there is truth And a solution. The truth and solution in the Boondocks is- black people have different issues and different values, but were still Black. We have to accept that were a people and not let our differences divide us, but Unite us. So, when I see Black Jesus from the genius Aaron McGruder- I know theres more to it! Black Jesus is like White Jesus- he represents people with problems. White Jesus is fake and corny. Hes looking off to the side, hes got blonde hair and blue eyes, his beard is perfect. He looks like Michael Keaton from Family Ties. Black Jesus is ghetto and looks homeless. He smokes weed, cusses, is always asking for something, looks like someone you know from the neighborhood. The point is that Jesus looks like the people that need him the most. Why do you think he said, what you do unto the least of these, you do unto me. Jesus tends to the sick. Aaron McGruder offends those that arent doing anything anyway but talking. All the people that Need Jesus and can relate are gonna watch the show, and connect with a Jesus thats like them- and that Likes them. And he cusses sometimes- but so do you. Are you not a Christian? He likes to get his head right w/ the green and some drank. How many Christians do you know that do the same? My point is: if you want to be light- go Into the darkness. If you want to be salt, you may have to go on something thats Raw. Maybe the point to Black Jesus is the same point to Jesus- come down. Hang out. Get to know the people. Show them God thru your love. Let them invite in your truth thru your trust. Move on to something greater. Thats just how I see it though. I invite any and all commentary, thoughts, complaints, questions, etc.
