Black Pond turtles also known as the spotted pond turtle, are a turtle species indigenous to Pakistan (Indus and Ganges River drainage), northeastern India (Assam), and Bangladesh. Around 200 Black Pond turtles were smuggled to China. Luckily, they were confiscated in Taxkorgan, China, last month and returned to Pakistani officials during a ceremony held at Khunjrab Pass on the Pakistan-China border. The turtles were released back into their natural habitat, Indus River near Pannu Akil, by Sindh Wild Life Department officials on Monday.
