Black Sun: Profound Perceptions by Sun Creation Unfortunately the American influence and their pop culture is overwhelmingly strong and with their mainstream media being relayed on our cable system it is not possible to block out their traditional events like American thanksgiving, Halloween, etc. Thanksgiving Day, Labor Day, Emancipation Day are some of the traditional holidays we share with the US but are celebrated on different Days. Thanksgiving Day in Saint Lucia which is of little or not even celebrated other than a Catholic Mass was October 6th., Labor Day which we know as May Day and Emancipation day should be highlighted as holidays of enormous significance in Saint Lucia because of what they stand for socially and historically. Over ninety percent of the population are descendants of slaves from Africa. When slavery as it was known at the time was abolished we became lowly paid workers who generated immense wealth for our colonial masters in Europe. WE Africans should make these two holidays very essential parts, segments or chapters in of our heritage by significantly augmenting Labor Day and Emancipation Day celebrations, write and publish our own history text books for our schools and these moves will instantly bring awareness, overstaning and much needed knowledge which will have the young people which is our future embrace true History. We will be totally conformed to the Exotic culture we now are being influenced by unless we return to celebrating the legacies of the ancestors with exuberance and tremendous fervor, but here we are celebrating Xmas, Corpus Christi, Easter and Good Friday to a very high degree the way we should celebrate that which relates to, reflects and is congruent to our Afrocentric history, culture and heritage. With this said it shows evidence that we do not appreciate and like our own and this is certainly the result of the strong exotic influences and conditioning of colonialism and neo colonialism. Consequently, this new age commercial phenomenon of aggressive marketing that is transforming us to total consumers of goods and services, the Sultans of Greed has come forward with Black Friday which is part of their marketing strategies that has now taken root in our Saint Lucia and will play its part in further isolating us from what little Afrocentricty like Kele we have left on the island plantation. ~ Sun Creation
