Black history month is a great time to reflect on who we are as a people. One month cant determine a whole generation, but its a start in a positive direction to acknowledge and respect people of colour in the U.S, and all over the world. I am truly greatful for the great black leaders before my time. Marcus Mosiah Garvey is one of my greatest influences. He taught us about Self reliance, black nationalism, and black pride. Some of the greatest leaders you have read about in the United States, such as, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and many others have been influenced by Garvey. Its important for me to elaborate mostly on this charismatic leader because he started it all. We have come a far way, we have struggled as a people, we have emancipated ourselves from the horror, tyranny of slavery and colonization. Come on everyone, lets all celebrate for freedom. I see people as people, I dont see white, black, asian, or Mexican, I see human life. My forefathers fought for Human rights, they fought for every nationality, unlike some that only fought for themselves. If it wasnt for my fathers, many blacks, mexicans, and asians civil rights and civil liberties would have been destroyed completely. Today we can live in a world where content of character is exalted rather than skin colour. I salute my leaders and elders before my time, I write these words to show my gratitude and just to simply say thank you. Happy black history month, blessings.
