An hour ago, Ukraine unilaterally cut electric power supplies to the Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, - he said. - On all four lines, to zero, he added. ====> Witness account of Ukraine MH17 takedown confirmed by lie detector – investigators. Russia’s Investigative Committee has confirmed the claims by a Ukrainian, who said he witnessed the deployment of a Ukrainian warplane armed with air-to-air missiles on the day the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot down. The Russian Defense Ministry made public radar data indicating that a Ukrainian military jet capable of taking down the airliner with an air-to-air missile was in the vicinity of MH17 at the time of the incident. rt/news/217295-mh17-ukraine-military-plane/ ====> Ukrainian government prepares extreme austerity measures. Prime Minister Yatsenyuk’s new economic program for 2015-2020 proposes to implement extreme austerity policies dictated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other international creditors. In his remarks before parliament, Yatsenyuk insisted, “Nobody will give us aid just for nothing. In order to get it, we need to carry out the very same harsh reforms that we talked about in the elections.” Even as it savages the living standards of Ukraine’s already poor population, the Kiev regime is increasing spending on the military and law enforcement, which it plans to raise to five percent of gross domestic product (GDP). The government has said it will renounce its “non-aligned” status and seek “compliance with NATO standards.” Alongside the militarization of Ukrainian society, the government is promoting nationalism and a number of law-and-order policies aimed at stoking up right-wing sentiment and crushing dissent. A new state bureau of investigations is to be created, and there are plans to construct a security wall along the Russian border. “National patriotic education” classes will become a mandatory component of school educational programs. Ukrainian politician Volodymyr Oliynyk, a former member of parliament and ally of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych, has commented that the proposed austerity policies will inevitably lead to a “social explosion.” https://wsws.org/en/articles/2014/12/23/ukra-d23.html ====> China challenges US economic war against Russia. Directly challenging the NATO powers’ policy of cutting off credit to Russia to undermine the ruble and bankrupt the Russian economy, China is pledging to extend financial aid to Moscow. These offers of assistance cut across the economic war on Russia launched by US and European imperialism to punish Moscow for opposing their neo-colonial restructuring of Eurasia. In retaliation for Russian support for President Bashar al-Assad against NATO’s proxy war in Syria and Russian opposition to the NATO-backed Ukrainian regime in Kiev, the NATO powers sought to financially strangle Russia. As Russian oil revenues fell in line with the fall in world oil prices and the ruble collapsed, they worked to cut off credit to Russia and demanded that Russia acquiesce to the Kiev regime. Many analysts believe that the Russian factor is a driving force for abrupt change of US policy on Cuba. In recent years Russia has intensified its diplomatic activities in Latin America; it boosts its ties with Venezuela, Brazil, Nicaragua, Argentina, Ecuador and Bolivia. The cooperation with Cuba is on the rise. The island is located at the distance of 90 miles from the United States. The progress in military cooperation between Russia and Cuba made Washington launch the policy of détente in its relationship with Havana and upgrade the policy of «soft power» to prevent he emergence of Russia’s military bases on the island. Still a significant part of US establishment is interested in painting Russia as a «strategic adversary» and keeping the economic embargo against Cuba in force. There is no reason to expect that the «the shift of policy on Cuba» announced by president Obama would lead to curbing the multiform subversive operations against the Island of Freedom. strategic-culture.org/news/2014/12/24/obama-and-multiform-anti-cuban-policy.html
