Blair really is a piece of work. So its easy, and tempting, to simply throw abuse at the guy. But heres the rub: there are hundreds of power brokers and decision makers in the party who subscribe to his philosophy - not at grassroots, where hes a busted flush, but from the top, behind the scenes and amongst those special advisers. So its still important to challenge New Labour fundamentalism: ...he told the Economist that the result might well be an election “in which a traditional leftwing party competes with a traditional rightwing party, with the traditional result”. Asked if he meant a Tory win, Blair said: “Yes, that is what happens.” This is such a loaded remark - revealing so much about Blair and his followers. Even after 6 years of economic misery, caused by the failure of the free market God that he worshipped at, Blair still believes that Labour should be chasing the votes of the so-called centre ground. In reality, that centre ground has been an ever moving feast for New Labourites. Right now, its about positioning ourselves firmly within Coalition austerity politics. This is a suicidal tactic which must be fought tooth and nail, not only by socialists, but by anyone who cares about the Labour Party. One word, Tony: PASOK. theguardian/politics/2014/dec/30/tony-blair-ed-miliband-general-election-labour
