Blake is a very handsome 3 year old Golden Retriever who was referred to MVSC from Waverley Animal Hospital. Blake was very unwell with a large abscess that had formed near his brain. Blake was unable to open his eyes or walk normally when he first arrived at MVSC. Blake was circling to the left, pressing his head on the wall, ataxic and had a large amount of facial swelling on the right side of his head above the eye. Dr Simon Kudnig performed an MRI and identified a significant mass of fluid on the brain, a craniotomy was performed to drain the large abscess. Blake had improved significantly by the next day and was able to walk again, he started eating overnight and was discharged from hospital after a couple days. Blake will require several types of antibiotics over a number of weeks to ensure the infection is cleared completely. Blake has a very caring owner who has been looking after him very well! We are pleased to report that his recovery is going great :)
