Blaming religion for everything is rather short sighted. We moderns also worship Gods. The Gods of Capitalism, Fascism, Communism and Nation states gave us our two worst wars(ww1 and ww2) in history. And although religion out of context is ridiculous, a religious world where the earth itself was sacred allowed all peoples before a couple of centuries ago to pass down a beautiful planet from generation to generation for thousands upon thousands of years...these new Gods and their desacralization of our planet have done more damage to Earth and us in two short centuries than all mankind did before it. People forget that the people who inhabit todays religions are of the same elk and breed of the people who inhabit todays political offices and corporations...Modern Men, and they are motivated by the biggest God of them all, Self Interest. We should not be so quick to assume that all men before us were like us, afterAll there wouldnt be such a gorgeous planet here for us to destroy if there was. Its no coincidence that it was in this century of these new Gods, that Nuclear weaponry was developed. Men may have been less clever in times before but what good is a cleverness that endangers man to todays extent? From unlocking the dark energies of fossil fuels from the underbelly of our planet where it belonged to unlocking nuclear energy, the price that these technologies have and are going to cost us are not worth their benefits. A science blind to judgment with no higher principle to guide it serves the God of Self Interest by default. Even if the scientist is pious and tells himself he is neutral, he is deluded if he thinks his research will also remain so. Scientists are at the mercy of whoever drives the funding for their research.
