Blarney Castle. Originally built around 1200 a.d., but due to wars, destruction and fire, it was rebuilt many times. The existing structure is about 600 years old. It was built by one of the greatest chieftains - Cormac Macarthy. The stone, given as a gift by a Scottish king for their help in a war in Scotland is, and always has been at the top of the castle - about 90 feet. I thought a stone as a gift was rather odd. To get to the stone, you must climb 125 steps to the top, bend over backwards over the pamifits of the castle, hold onto the iron railing (basically hanging upside down), and kiss the rock which has been the recipient of millions of lips. Your reward - the gift of gab. I did not kiss the stone. The pamifits, which you must lean over, can be seen in the first pic - the row of little slots above the most upper window. You can see those hanging over and kissing the stone from the ground. One of the "wooded walks" are filled with Druidic rock formations, believed to be dating back to pre-historic times.
