Blast from the past... 15 years back... Jan 28-31, 1999.. It was a Sunday and Chepauk was jam packed... What was supposed to be a winning match against our arch rivals Pakistan overturned after Sachins dismissal with 16 to win.... The crowd slowly left the stadium after his dismissal.. Pakistan eventually went on to win the Test match by 12 runs... And guess what... The remaining crowd in the stadium stood up and started clapping for Pakistan.. I was there next to the Indian Players Pavilion that day and went up all the way to Terrace (Those days people in Pavilion were allowed to go to Terrace and come back at their will. They were given a temporary pass..) The Pakistani players took a victory lap receiving the applause from us...Several times this incident has been mentioned by Wasim and several others referring us all as Knowledgeable Chennai crowd... Even those who were supposedly our rivals were treated so well which had earned us that name collectively... I felt so damn proud every single time someone mentioned about Chennai crowd.. Be it Sachin abt his fav hunting ground or Akram abt our gesture or so many other things mentioned in other interviews. Today the same Chennai crowd in the name of fans of Actors are shamefully spreading hatred, absolutely negating every single thing people did those days... Our entire image is destroyed because of these groups out there.. Those who should have been lesser in number are surprisingly increasing day by day and silence from others are simply encouraging them to talk nonsense... I know this post wont change anything but personally feel very bad... I hope people could simply correct their fellow friends whom they think are contributing to these hash tag trends and spoiling the image of entire state.. Distasteful.
