Blessed Friday, September 5, 2014, from St. Thomas, U.S. V.I. TODAY’S MEDITATION: WHAT KIND OF PARENT WAS GOD? From the end of creation to the present time, humankind has dishonored our Creator, God Almighty. Starting with our first parents to this day and until Jesus returns, many of us will do things contrary to God’s Perfect Plan for us. From the moment Adam sinned, God could have ended it all and killed Adam and his wife. But God’s Eternal Love required Him to sent Jesus Christ to die to saved that which was lost; all of us. When we look at man from the Garden of Eden to now, man has been an embarrassment to his Creator. Let’s name a few instances: 1. God creates a man and woman after His likeness and places them in a perfect environment with full freedom, yet man failed by disobedience. 2. At the time of Noah’s Ark building, God said that because of man’s sinfulness, He regretted creating man. God destroyed the earth except for Noah and his family. 3. Jesus, a perfect man, came into an imperfect environment, healed the sick, cleansed the lepers, fed the thousands etc., yet He the Creator is put to death by his created. It would appear that God, as a parent, was a failure, if we make note of how His children have turned out. Does this mean He was a terrible example of parenthood? God forbid, for we know better. What motivated God to deal with us the way He has? Let’s read:John 3:16New Living Translation (NLT) 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave[a] his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. Some of us as parents, no matter how much we have tried to bring up our children in the fear and admonition of God, have experienced shame and guilt over the actions and paths our children have gone or are going. Often times, we as parents, have given our best to bring up our children in the fear of the Lord, but so many turn out going the wrong way. We wish they had turned out better or made better choices in life. But we could not and cannot control every action they take. We might not agree with their actions, but we must learn to love them even as Christ as loved us. Some of us failed along the way, but God’s Grace saved us, and He can do the same for them. Let’s read this Scripture and stop putting so much pressure on ourselves: Romans 12:3New Living Translation (NLT) 3 Because of the privilege and authority[a] God has given me (Paul), I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.[b] PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help us to realize that once we have done what You require from us as parents, all that’s left for us is to pray and hope that our offspring follow our instructions and also trust in You. We pray in Jesus’ Name!
