Haile Selassie was instrumental in mediating the Nigerian Civil War, making 3 sets of compromise proposals to both sides, until a resolution was achieved. 2. Haile Selassie arranged for an emergency air corridor for the escape of children, women and elderly who were victims of the war. 3. Haile Selassie had several private meetings with the leaders of both sides of the civil war in Nigeria, trying to come to a peaceful resolution. 4. Haile Selassie chaired OAU meetings aimed at ending the conflict in Nigeria. 5. Haile Selassie was the first Head of State to visit Nigeria after the civil war ended.
