Blessings all, I was overwhelmed with emotion reading todays Northern Star, which brilliantly covers Saturdays rally in Lismore to declare the Northern Rivers gas field free. What really struck me were the words protected by community and the description of all-walks-of -life marching together with the most humblest motivation; to protect country for the children of today and tomorrow. I am so proud of my community. So very proud to be a part of the Rainbow Tribe of many colours, ages and backgrounds, and I truly thank the miners for drawing us all together to show ourselves and the nation what love and unity in action really looks like. I also feel very proud to be a part of the brewing storm that has become the largest social movement in Australia since the anti-Vietnam war. My thoughts turn towards Uncle Harry Boyd and his friends and advisors, Doug Fergurson, Ian Gaillard and the late Ross Pepper, who travelled around the region raising the alarm a few years back about the underground water being under threat from CSG. This group of visionaries started asking the question of the nations politicians; what protection do we have for our underground waterways in Australian law and what is being done to protect our cultural diversity in the Northern Rivers? After 10,000 Amend was born, inspired from the Goolarabooloo fight at James Price point to save the coastline from a gas hub, a brief message on Amend from a mysterious FB profile called Wolf Web, alerted us to a planned well at Doubtful Creek on Jarmbis home country. It was up on the hill behind Angie and Deans place around a fire, before the blockade began, that my heart first truly awakened to the plight of my fellow country men and women whose lives and land were in the firing-line to be gobbled up by corporate greed without their consent. The fear and worry that Dean and Angie were having to bare, was so sad to witness. I had to help. I have since seen so many faces carrying the same burden that Angie and Dean carried that night. In Narrabri, Tara, Boggabri, Pilliga, Bentley, Chinchilla, Roxby Downs, Leard, Maules Creek. Acland and Gladstone and been in contact via social media with countless others. So many sweet, kind and thoughtful human beings being disregarded by Government in favour of big business agenda and economic growth. (A pattern that has in reality been repeating itself since invasion and occupation began in Australia.) In a crude, ironic twist, so many Australians now are deepening their empathy with the Ancestors of the land and what they endured when their land was stolen and destroyed. Today I am so bloody proud of the Northern Rivers and the determined, spirited human beings here who are absolute spunks for using their voice to speak out about CSG and be prepared to walk their talk to stand and protect if necessary. As was shown at Doubtful, Bentley and Glenugie. And yet still my heart aches for the many others in Australia caught off guard whose lives have been ruined and or are being deeply impacted by the mining machine. So today, may the golden glow shining over our region from Saturdays rally be not only a beacon of inspiration for other communities in Australia, but also a healing light for our fellow country men and women in the likes of Maules Creek, Pilliga, Gloucester, the Kimberley, Gladstone, the Western Downs etc etc, warming their hearts to know that we in the Northern Rivers care about them and their children. And we will do whatever we can to help them. Love. Peace. Grace. xxik
