Blessings on the harried parents this morning. The ones flying solo, by choice or circumstance, the ones in yoga class with wrestling children, the ones who have lost their keys, their cell phone, their dignity. The ones who are too fat for those jeans and must relegate them to stand-up pants status. The ones who are tired from being up with a baby or mad at a spouse, or slept fitfully for worry over an elderly parent, a wayward teen, a job that consumes.... Bless the parents who have no biological children but out of need or desire are raising up boys and girls who come out as queer, who have special needs, who cant yet tie shoes, or have a nasty habit of shop lifting. Blessings on the mothers and the fathers with grown children over whom they still worry and who creep out to the mailbox by mornings earliest light with a check tucked in an envelope sealed with a prayer and addressed to a far away city. Blessings on the parents parenting their own parents, by wiping butts and drooling chins, giving baths, and tenderly ministering to those who first tended them. Blessings on the mothers and the fathers of this day who have more than they can possibly accomplish but will try anyway, because that is just what a good parent does.... Bless YOU.
