Blizzard drop the curtain surrounding one of their trademarks from early last week. Diablo 3 Expansion ‘Reaper of Souls’ gets an official announcement at Gamescom. It’s been 15 months since Nephilim world wide fought to vanquish the endless tides of Error 37′s from Sanctuary that held them back from banishing the Lord of Terror back from whence he came. No not Jay Wilson. 15 long months since forums were ablaze with rage over the prospects of a real money auction house failing to make an appearance at launch. Today August 21st, 15 months since Diablo 3 was released, Blizzard have announced the follow up expansion to 2012′s fastest selling PC game. Que: Diablo 3 Reaper Of Souls. On swift wings… So, hey! The internet was right about something. Remember that Reaper of Souls trademark story we were talking about last week? Yup! It totally was a thing and as I’ve said before…the internet kind of likes things! Announced at Gamescom earlier today alongside the simply AWESOME opening cinematic, Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls is set roughly a few weeks after the Lord of Terror, Diablo himself (herself?! Oh spoiler…) was defeated at the end of D3. Blizzard have described Reaper of Souls as a “feature-rich expansion” that includes the new Crusader class for players to test drive, an increased level cap taking players to a maximum level of 70, a new addition to the Diablo 3 story and a new threat; the fallen angel of death, Malthael. …Death comes Blizzard have been keen to put an emphasis on its new loot system that they’ve dubbed ‘Loot 2.0′. Throwing out fewer loot drops but accompanied by a ‘smart drop’ system, the new system will offer a percentage chance that any loot dropped will be appropriate for your class. Yes, that does include legendaries, of which 6 new additions will be included at launch. Finally, alongside the expected new additions to the enemy roster, Blizzard are keen to beef up the end-game that so many players found…well…lacking. The words being thrown around on the street at the moment include ‘loot-runs’ and some upgrades to the Paragon system introduced with patch 1.0.4, which by the way will be completely account-wide rather than on a character-by-character basis. No release date yet, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but the question really is; Can Blizzard revitalise the series after all of the hell that broke out in the community last year? I don’t know how much more whining I can deal with…Save our souls Blizz…Please. Tempy
