Blockbusters and big action flicks tend to get the bad reputation these days but I feel it was a good year for them. I know a lot of people will really contest some of these choices but I have listed 10 of them from 2014 that I enjoyed. Some are among my favorites of the year. 1. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY--in my top 10 movies of the year. Just pure fun from start to finish. I cant stop watching it. The whole family loves it. 2. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST--my favorite X-Men movie to date. I never thought any would bypass X2 but this one did for me. Im a big X-Men fan going way back so that probably has a lot to do with it. Thought it was a solid film. 3. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES--Every bit as good as Rise was. Very little not to like here. 4. CAPTAIN AMERICAN 2: THE WINTER SOLDIER--Solid comic book film by way of spy film. This is the mature Marvel film. Just perfectly done. 5. JOHN WICK--not a new concept at all but so perfectly executed. 6. EDGE OF TOMORROW--Engaging and entertaining. I had NO INTEREST in this movie at first sight but thoroughly enjoyed it. A rare winner for Tom. 7. THE EQUALIZER--Not special and nothing new but Denzel and Antoine are the perfect fit for this kind of action flick. 8. GODZILLA--A lot of hate for this film but as many know I really liked it. Was totally entertained the whole time. Even the wife liked it and she usually hates these type of movies. 9. THE PURGE: ANARCHY--I was not a fan of the first movie at all but this one made up for it. Not great but definitely worth watching. I enjoyed it. 10. ROBOCOP--Another one people hate and say raped their childhood. I like that it isnt like the original. Its a good movie on its own merit. And screw it. While it wasnt GREAT, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was not awful. It doesnt make my list because I didnt love it or like it as much as the others but I just didnt think it was as bad as most say it was. It was a fun kids flick. I still havent seen the new Hobbit movie. Havent seen Raid 2 or Fury yet either.
