Blog Details-Google search engine. Scotland—A Proud Nation?? Hail Caledonia A TRIAL RUN A few months ago I wrote an article in which I quoted the following story of nations who had the experience of gaining their independence (freedom) from an overarching authoritative regime. The countries I alluded to in my narrative were the Baltic States Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. I related how the people of the capital cities of Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn appeared in their thousands in these cities` streets in celebration of such a momentous occasion. I also referred to a comparison with the Scottish circumstances whereby none of the countries named were fortunate enough to have the vast wealth of “OIL &GAS” to look forward to in helping their economies in the future. In spite of that they, as I say, turned out in their thousands for the simple reason that they valued their “FREEDOM” over any other aspect of their cultural life-style!!!! Last night I sat and thought about this old story of mine, and the concept of “CELEBRATION” developed into a possibility of enshrining it an idea which I will set out and explain. My immediate line of thinking centred on the important celebrations in Scotland each year, and the most obvious is the “HOGMANAY” international party. The following is my proposal for encapsulating the celebratory atmosphere of this special occasion…… The theme for the project could be named “2014 A NATION REBORN”. Since Edinburgh is the internationally acclaimed centre of “AULD YEAR`S NIGHT FESTIVITIES”, inevitably the Capital city will receive an optimum in publicity for the world media. The format for the occasion is a concert in Princes Street Gardens. The stage is set with a backdrop of the world famous castle. My proposal is to set up a large specially designed floodlit (FLASHING?) sign at the rear of the stage which would read “2014 SCOTLAND VOTES YES”. This could actually be repeated on Arthur`s Seat; also included would be a similar sign on Calton Hill, the wording would differ and read “2014 SCOTLAND EXPECTS”. This is where my title comes into play, the population of Edinburgh who intend to vote “YES” should be encouraged to attend in their thousands and give voice to anthems appropriate for the occasion. This could be a “TRIAL RUN” for the main event the celebrations for a success for the “YES” campaign. Further to the above scenario, I would propose that there be similar actions in every city, town and village throughout the country; again with the attendance of “YES” campaigners I am sure all my good friends will appreciate “PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTOR” of my proposed scheme.. Sincerely, David. Saor Alba . . . Blog Details-Google search engine. Scotland—A Proud Nation??
