Blood Ties almost pulls off the impossible. Its the victim of hurried and slightly amateurish editing and yet the scenes, direction and acting almost make the movie truly great. The first half of the film suffers the most as scenes feel more like moments and less like a story. Brothers on opposite sides of the law (Billy Crudup and Clive Owen) feel a little too collared initially by their families and loved ones but once a well done armored car robbery takes place the movie finds its footing. Stock full of character actors (Noah Emmerich, Griffin Dunne, Domenick Lombardozzi, and my favorite - Matthias Schoenaerts) and utilizing classic 70s crime beats/tropes to perfection the movie is more entertaining to watch than intellectually stimulating but the lack of movies like this in todays age makes me a little more welcoming. Its like when my Dad bought 5 pound cakes because they were on sale and its all we ate for three weeks and we got really sick of them but then after a few years we really wanted one but they didnt have them at the store we went to anymore but one day we stumbled across one at a gas station and we had to get it because we needed it and even if it wasnt that good it really sated a need we had for pound cake. Uhhhh...that got more disturbing than I intended...if you get a chance see Blood Ties...review over.
