Blood tests done. Jaxon had very thick blood so catheters had to be inserted. I had to leave the room and let Daddy deal with it...so hard to see your new born being pulled about and numerous needles and lines put into his tiny veins. Jaxon was brave as ever, not bothered by the needles but hated having his hands and feet bent to expose the veins. First FISH results came back within 24 hours confirming Trisomy 21, the most common type of Down syndrome. Further more detailed results will take more than 2 weeks. Blood tests also showed dangerous levels of jaundice so my little baby had to go under ultra violet lights for the night. He responded brilliantly to the lights and was out after just 7 hours. He was breast feeding really well by now, which was helping to flush his system out. He was also unable to regulate his body temperature. He was in a hot cot. It seemed wrong on the hottest nights of the year having him on a heated mattress, wearing two layers of clothes including a hat, with blankets piled on him. Until the cot was turned down and he maintained his temperature for 12 hours, we couldnt go home. Because he was stripped off under the lights, his temperature went down meaning the cot had to be turned up, delaying coming home by at least 24 hours.
