Bloody hell Wellington. When did things get like this? It was only - TopicsExpress

Bloody hell Wellington. When did things get like this? It was only 7 years ago when I started going out to dance to music. There used to be options, almost too many. You had house and techno nights, drum and bass nights, trance and hard house was still a thing (though not my cup of tea, all respect) and all of these nights were just ridiculously packed, it didnt matter what night of the week. Back then I heard only stories of more ridiculousness. Legendary nights in places now gone that Ill never experience. Now if you want anything that isnt pervasive pop music you have to wait for that once monthly gig or international visit (or witness Wellington get overlooked for another tour). When did the generational collective taste in music get so mundane? What more can be done to reverse a trend? All I notice is a downward slope of venues closing and events coming spread apart while the venues that remain continue to do business (and I must assume, profit and success) simply playing pop records. Please dont interpret this as a fading raver reminiscing about the good old days (Jesus Christ Im only 24). Its just a stream of observations and questions. How do we make dance music cool again so I can look forward to every weekend? Is this all pointless hot air? Probably. Id just like to action some change. Cool rant Paige. (Yes hearing another venue closing prompted this post) (Yes all the promoters and venues left putting their lives into events I love and support you)
