Bloomberg Sports today revealed their list of Europe’s top 50 footballers based off position-specific statistics. Though some of the rankings were to be expected, like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo claiming the first and second spots, other results were a bit surprising. Colombian striker Radamel Falcao who has just completed a monster move to AS Monaco, comes in at number 30, one spot behind Aston Villa and Belgium frontman Christian Benteke. The English Premier League’s highest ranking player is Manchester United’s Robin Van Persie who comes in at sixth whileEngland only managed to produce two players – Leighton Baines (16) and Wayne Rooney (26) on the entire list. The only other British player, Gareth Bale, comes in at number nine. The list was made public on the back-end of England’s torrid display at the U21 European Championships where they weren’t even able to obtain a single point in the tournament. Their performance, as well as Bloomberg’s list, will certainly fuel the debate for change in England’s development strategies. Take a look at the list below – do you think it is accurate? 1.
