Bloomington Illinois - Rte 66 in June 1992. The reason I originally started out to tour Route 66 was because I had an old Mid Year Corvette that I had done a lot of the work on and I wanted to say it was a seasoned car and had covered as many miles as existed yet on Route 66. And I could finally say that. But used to be that the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) would hold an event each year where they would judge and certify the authenticity of your car. Bloomington / Normal was right on old Route 66. I went one year and was overwhelmed with the number of Corvettes that should up. Thousands and thousands and there was no way I was going to get close to getting my car judged. Was an interesting event none the less. Now ....if you give people their way long enough....they will ruin everything and the NCRS has ruined Bloomington Gold. It is now held in Lake Charles - no where near Rte 66. Always the way things go.
