Blow for Mourinho as Modric says he will not leave Real Madrid this summer Luka Modric has dealt Jose Mourinho a blow by insisting he has no intention of following the Portuguese from Real Madrid to Chelsea. The returning Chelsea manager signed Modric in a £33million deal last summer and was hoping to take the Croatian to Stamford Bridge after he endured a poor first season in Spain. But rather than return to England - where Modric spent four years at Tottenham - the 27-year-old has expressed his determination to remain at Real. He told The Sun: ‘I’m not even thinking about the possibility I could leave Madrid this summer, but there is interest from other clubs. ‘Every kid who plays football dreams about playing for Real Madrid. It was the same with me. ‘Of course I was sad when Jose Mourinho left. He was the one who insisted in bringing me to Madrid. He is a fantastic coach and I am honoured to have worked with him.’ Manchester United have also been monitoring Modric’s situation but Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas is their No 1 midfield target with PSV’s Kevin Strootman another option.
