Blowing dust is blamed for a Sunday afternoon pileup near Liberal that shut down Highway 54 for more than 4 hours. One report states that visibility was less than 5 feet. At least 12 vehicles were involved, 6 cars and trucks – including a horse trailer headed to Nebraska after the college rodeo in Guymon – and 6 semis. The accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. one mile east of Tyrone, about 9 miles southwest of Liberal. Only minor injuries were reported.
