Blowing snow warning for Gillam Shamattawa continued Strong winds giving poor visibilities in blowing snow overnight into Friday. An intense low pressure system near Rankin Inlet will track into Hudson Bay tonight and into Northern Ontario Friday night. As this system tracks into Hudson Bay tonight, very strong northwest winds will develop along the Hudson Bay coast causing widespread blizzard conditions with zero or near zero visibilities. The blizzard is expected to begin in Churchill this evening as sustained winds increase to 60 or 70 km/h with gusts to 90 developing overnight. The blizzard will continue in full force Friday with powerful northwest winds gusting to 100 km/h and zero visibilities through the day into Friday night. The blizzard is expected to ease Saturday morning however blizzard conditions may redevelop again on Sunday as the low lingers in Hudson Bay and another ridge strengthens in the Western Arctic bringing increasing northwest winds again. Residents should be prepared for a dangerous storm with a prolonged period of very strong winds and whiteout conditions beginning tonight and continuing into early Saturday. Further south..Strong northwest winds of 50 gusting to 70 km/h in Gillam and Shamattawa overnight into Friday will result in poor visibilities in blowing snow with local whiteout conditions at times.
