Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth seeks an Aquarist Our award winning Blue Reef aquarium, located on the North East coast is home to an array of animals in over 40 naturally themed exhibits from around the world from the British coast, the Mediterranean, coral reef and the tropical rainforest. This key role within the business will be varied, challenging, but extremely rewarding. Working along side the Curator, you will be responsible for providing a high standard of animal husbandry and care to all our mammals, primates, reptiles, sharks and rays. You will also be responsible for the development of training programmes for our otters, seals, sea lions, pygmy marmosets and cotton topped tamarins. A proven background in sea lion and other animal training is essential. You will be responsible for maintaining and developing displays and exhibits and therefore a proven ability to design, construct and maintain aquaria is a must and familiarity with PVC pipework, basic joinery and maintenance of life support equipment including pumps is essential criteria. Other responsibilities will include providing veterinary care, display development and breeding programmes as directed. The role will also involve providing various informative talks and presentations throughout the day, and also providing educational and entertaining talks and guided tours to schools, groups and birthday parties. This is a full time position and includes working weekends and bank holidays.
