Blue lagoon turns black A pool at a disused quarry, known locally as the Blue Lagoon, has been dyed black in an attempt to stop people swimming in it. Despite the water at Harpur Hill, near Buxton, having a pH level of 11.3 - almost as toxic as bleach - hundreds swam there when the weather turned warm. A spokesman for High Peak BC said: “We are trying to find ways of discouraging people from finding it attractive. Over the weekend people were coming up as they normally do to swim and then very quickly turning around again when they saw the water.”
